Bulgaria Retail Sales Growth at 4-Month Low
Retail sales in Bulgaria increased 1.2 percent year-on-year in October 2019, slowing from a 2.6 percent rise in the previous month. It was the smallest annual gain in retail trade since June, as sales grew less for automotive fuel (1.6 percent vs 6.9 percent) while decreased for food, beverages & tobacco (-0.2 percent vs 1.3 percent). On the other hand, those of non-food products rose slightly faster (2.1 percent vs 2 percent), driven by textiles, clothing & footwear (8.9 percent vs 6.6 percent); computers, peripheral units & software; telecommunications equipment (8.8 percent vs 2.3 percent) and information and communication equipment (6.9 percent vs 4.7 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales went down 0.1 percent, after being flat in the previous month.

Bulgaria Retail Trade Growth Picks Up to 2.6%
Retail sales in Bulgaria rose 2.6 percent year-on-year in September 2019, following a 2 percent increase in the previous month. Sales advanced faster for food, beverages & tobacco (1.3 percent vs 0.9 percent in August) and automotive fuel (6.9 percent vs 3.6 percent). Meanwhile, non-food products sales climbed 2 percent, unchanged from the prior month, driven by sales of textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (6.6 percent vs 8.5 percent); audio and video equipment; hardware, paints and glass; electrical household appliances (6.6 percent vs 5.7 percent); computers, peripheral units and software; telecommunications equipment (2.3 percent vs 2 percent) and information and communication equipment (4.7 percent vs 3.9 percent). On a monthly basis, retail sales edged up 0.3 percent, rebounding from a 0.3 percent fall in August.

Bulgaria’s retail trade rose 2 percent year-on-year in August 2019, easing from an upwardly revised 3.8 percent gain in the previous month. Sales slowed for non-food products (2 percent compared to 4.6 percent in July); food, beverages & tobacco (0.9 percent compared to 1.2 percent); and automotive fuel (3.6 percent compared to 6.9 percent). On a seasonally adjusted basis, retail sales dropped 0.3 percent, after increasing a downwardly revised 0.7 percent in the prior month.

Bulgaria Retail Sales Rise the Most in 8 Months
Bulgaria’s retail sales increased 3.7 percent year-on-year in July 2019, after rising 0.1 percent in the previous month. It was the largest gain in retail trade since November last year, as both non-food products sales (4.6 percent compared to -1.1 percent in June) and food, beverages & tobacco rebounded (1.3 percent compared to -0.9 percent). Additionally, sales of automotive fuel advanced further (6.9 percent compared to 5.1 percent). On a seasonally adjusted basis, retail sales went up 1.0 percent, the same pace as in the prior month.

Bulgaria’s retail sales increased by 0.1 percent year-on-year in June of 2019, easing from a 0.4 percent rise in the previous month. It was the smallest gain in retail trade since February, as non-food products sales dropped (-1.1 percent vs 1.4 percent in May). On the other hand, automotive fuel sales advanced faster (5.1 percent vs 4.7 percent) while food, beverages & tobacco sales went down at a softer pace (-0.9 percent vs -2.7 percent). On a seasonally adjusted basis, retail sales showed no growth in June, after decreasing 0.3 percent in the previous month

Bulgaria Retail Sales Growth Eases to 0.4% in May
Retail trade in Bulgaria rose 0.4 percent year-on-year in May of 2019, following an upwardly revised 1.2 percent increase in the previous month. Sales advanced at a softer pace for non-food products (1.4 percent vs 2.8 percent in April) and fell for food, beverages & tobacco (-2.7 percent vs 0.2 percent). In contrast, those of automotive fuel (4.7 percent vs 0.9 percent) and via mail order houses or via Internet (21.1 percent vs 18.2 percent) grew solidly. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales decreased 0.2 percent, after an upwardly revised 0.4 percent gain in the prior month.
