Fiji Consumer Prices Fall for 2nd Month
Fiji consumer prices dropped by 0.3 percent in November 2019, compared to a 0.9 percent fall in the previous month. This was the second straight decline in consumer prices, as prices fell for: housing & utilities (-1.5%, the same pace in October), communication (-15%, the same pace as in October), and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (-2.6% vs -2.3%). Meantime, inflation was steady for education (at 5.2%) and restaurants & hotels (at 0.3%), while transport prices were flat (vs -0.9%). In contrast, cost rose faster for food and alcoholic beverages (2.9% vs 1.2%); clothing & footwear (1.7% vs 1.4%); furnishing, household equipment & routine maintenance (1.0% vs 0.7%); and miscellaneous goods & services (3.7% vs 2.8%). Also, recreation & culture prices rebounded (0.1% vs -0.1%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.2 percent percent in October, after falling 0.7 percent in September.

Fiji Consumer Prices Fall for First Time in Near 5 Years
Fiji’s consumer prices declined by 0.9 percent year-on-year in October 2019, compared to a 0.4 percent rise in the previous month. This was the first decline in consumer prices since a 0.2 percent fall in November 2014. On a monthly basis, consumer prices dropped 0.7 percent in October, after falling 0.3 percent in September.

Fiji September Inflation Rate Eases to Over 3-1/2-Year Low
The annual inflation rate in Fiji declined to 0.4 percent in September 2019 from 1.2 percent in the previous month. This was the lowest inflation since January 2016, as cost of food & non- alcoholic beverages slowed (3.3 percent vs 5.6 percent in August) while prices of alcoholic beverages & tobacco were unchanged (vs 0.8 percent). On the other hand, inflation was steady for housing & utilities (at 0.1 percent); transport (at 0.4 percent); education (at 5.2 percent), and restaurants & hotels (at 0.3 percent). In addition, cost increased further for miscellaneous goods & services (1.8 percent vs 1.1 percent); clothing & footwear (1.6 percent vs 1.1 percent); furnishing & household equipment (0.7 percent vs 0.5 percent); and health (0.9 percent vs 0.8 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices dropped 0.3 percent in September, after increasing 0.6 percent in August.

Fiji Inflation Rate Picks Up to 1.2% in August
The annual inflation rate in Fiji rose to 1.2 percent in August 2019 from a 3-1/2-year low of 0.7 percent in the previous month. Cost rose further for food and alcoholic beverages (5.6% vs 3.2% in July), transport (0.4% vs 0.3%), miscellaneous goods & services (1.1% vs 0.8%) and clothing & footwear (1.1% vs 0.8%). On the other hand, prices slowed for alcoholic beverages & tobacco (0.8% vs 2.1%) and furnishing, household equipment & routine maintenance (0.5% vs 0.8%). Also, inflation was steady for housing & utilities (at 0.1%), education (at 5.2%), and restaurants & hotels (at 0.3%) and health (at 0.8%) and cost of communication continued to fall (-15%, the same as in July). In addition, cost of recreation & culture was flat for the second consecutive month. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.6 percent in August, the first monthly increase in three months, rebounding from a 1.6 percent fall in July.

Fiji Inflation Rate Eases to 3-1/2 Year Low of 0.7%
The annual inflation rate in Fiji fell to 0.7 percent in July of 2019 from 2.8 percent in the previous month. This was the lowest inflation rate since January 2016. On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 1.6 percent, after decreasing 0.1 percent in the prior month.

Fiji June Inflation Rate Rises to 3-Month High of 2.8%
The annual inflation rate in Fiji rose to 2.8 percent in June of 2019 from a 15-month low of 2.1 percent in the previous month. Prices went up further for food & non-alcoholic beverages (7.3 percent vs 4.7 percent in May); clothing & footwear (0.9 percent vs 0.7 percent); and restaurant & hotels (0.3 percent vs 0.2 percent). Also, cost of miscellaneous goods & services increased (0.2 percent vs a flat reading) and price of health fell less (-0.1 percent vs -1.2 percent). On the other hand, cost slowed for alcoholic beverages & tobacco (7.8 percent vs 8 percent) and inflation was steady for both housing & utilities (at 0.3 percent, the same as in May); furnishings & household equipment (at 0.7 percent); education (at 5.2 percent). In addition, prices continued to decline for transport (-0.2 percent); and communication (-15.2 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went down 0.1 percent, after increasing 0.4 percent in the prior month.
