Portugal Producer Prices Fall for 6th Month
Producer prices in Portugal declined 1.9 percent year-on-year in November of 2019, following a 2 percent fall in October. It was the sixth consecutive decrease in producer prices, as cost continued to went down for intermediate goods (-3.2 percent vs -2.3 percent) and energy (-4.8 percent vs -6.6 percent). On the other hand, prices increased for consumer goods (0.9 percent vs 0.5 percent) and investment (0.3 percent vs 0.5 percent). On a monthly basis, producer prices dropped 0.5 percent, after a 0.1 percent gain in the previous month.

Producer prices in Portugal slumped 2 percent year-on-year in October 2019, following a 1.8 percent fall in the previous month. It was the fifth consecutive decline in producer prices and the steepest since August 2016, as cost fell further for energy (-6.6 percent vs -6.2 percent in September) and intermediate goods (-2.3 percent vs -1.8 percent). On the other hand, prices rose faster for consumer goods (0.7 percent vs 0.4 percent) while advanced at the same pace for capital goods (0.6 percent). On a monthly basis, producer prices went up 0.1 percent, after a 0.3 percent drop in the previous month.

It is the sharpest decrease in producer prices since September 2016, due to lower cost of energy (-4.6 percent vs -1.8 percent) and intermediate goods (-1.1 percent vs -0.8 percent). Also, prices slowed for capital goods (0.4 percent vs 0.7 percent). In contrast, cost rose faster for consumer goods (0.8 percent vs 0.5 percent), driven by both durable (1.3 percent vs 1.2 percent) and non-durable goods (0.7 percent vs 0.4 percent). On a monthly basis, producer prices went down 0.5 percent, after being flat in the previous month.

Producer prices in Portugal decreased 0.4 percent year-on-year in July 2019, following a 0.2 percent fall in the previous month. It is the second consecutive month of drop, as cost declined for energy (-1.8 percent vs -2.2 percent in June) and intermediate goods (-0.7 percent vs 0.1 percent). Also, prices slowed for capital goods (0.6 percent vs 0.9 percent) while advanced at the same pace for consumer goods (at 0.5 percent). On a monthly basis, producer prices were flat, after falling 0.5 percent in the prior month.

Portugal Producer Prices Fall for 1st Time in Near 3 Years
Producer prices in Portugal decreased 0.2 percent year-on-year in June of 2019, down from a 0.9 percent rise in the previous month. It is the first fall in producer prices since October of 2016, as energy cost slumped 2.2 percent (vs 1.9 percent in May). In addition, prices slowed for consumer goods (0.4 percent from 0.5 percent), due to both durables (1.1 percent from 1.2 percent) and non-durables (0.3 percent from 0.4 percent); and intermediate goods (0.2 percent from 0.8 percent). On the other hand, investment goods prices advanced 0.9 percent, faster than a 0.6 percent rise in May. On a monthly basis. Producer prices went down 0.5 percent, following a 0.3 percent gain in the prior month.
