Canada Weekly Earnings Rise the Most since 2011
Average weekly earnings of non-farm payroll employees in Canada rose 4 percent year-on-year to CAD 1,042 in September 2019, up from a downwardly revised 2.6 percent increase in the previous month. It was the largest gain in earnings since January 2011, led by accommodation & food services (6.2% to CAD 429), administrative & support services (6.1% to CAD 832) and manufacturing (6% to CAD 1,154). Other rises were also seen in professional, scientific & technical services (5.8% to CAD 1,474); retail trade (4.3% to CAD 626); health care & social assistance (4.3% to CAD (944); construction (4.1% to CAD 1,303); educational services (3.6% to CAD 1,080) and public administration (1.2% to CAD 1,329). Meantime, earnings were little changed in wholesale trade (0.2% to CAD 1,236.1). Average weekly earnings were up in all 10 provinces in September, led by Quebec (4.9% to CAD 975).

Average weekly earnings of non-farm payroll employees in Canada increased 2.9 percent year-on-year to CAD 1,035 in August of 2019, the same pace as in the previous month. Average weekly earnings were up in 8 of the 10 largest industrial sectors, led by construction (3.9%). At the same time, earnings were little changed in educational services (1.3%) and wholesale trade (0.3%). Compared with August 2018, average weekly earnings rose in nine provinces in August, led by Newfoundland and Labrador while they were little changed in Manitoba.

Average weekly earnings of non-farm payroll employees in Canada rose 2.7 percent year-on-year in July of 2019, after a downwardly revised 2.1 percent increase in the prior month. Average weekly earnings increased in 8 of the 10 largest industrial sectors, led by administrative and support services. At the same time, earnings were little changed in construction and educational services. Compared with July 2018, average weekly earnings increased in nine provinces, with Prince Edward Island leading the gains for the second consecutive month. Little change was recorded in Alberta.

Average weekly earnings of non-farm payroll employees in Canada rose 2.5 percent year-on-year in June 2019, after a 3.4 percent increase in the prior month. Average weekly earnings increased in 7 of the 10 largest industrial sectors, led by wholesale trade. At the same time, earnings were little changed in retail trade, construction, and educational services. Compared with June 2018, average weekly earnings increased in all provinces, led by Prince Edward Island.

Canada Average Weekly Earnings Rise the Most in Over a Year
Average weekly earnings of non-farm payroll employees in Canada increased 3.4 percent year-on-year in May 2019, following a downwardly revised 2.6 percent rise in the previous month. It was the largest gain in earnings since February last year, as wages went up in all of the industrial sectors, namely administrative & support services (7.5 percent to CAD 844); professional, scientific & technical services (3.9 percent to CAD 1,425); accommodation & food services (3.2 percent to CAD 414); retail trade (2.8 percent to CAD 611); wholesale trade (2.6 percent to CAD 1,246); manufacturing (2.6 percent to CAD 1,132) and health care & social assistance (2.4 percent to CAD 936). Average weekly earnings advanced in nine provinces, led by Saskatchewan (5.8 percent to CAD 1,070), British Columbia (4.3 percent to CAD 1,000) and New Brunswick (4.2 percent to CAD 947).

Average weekly earnings of non-farm payroll employees in Canada rose 2.9 percent year-on-year in April 2019, following a downwardly revised 1.8 percent increase in the prior month. It was the largest gain in earnings since August of 2018, as wages increased in 8 of the 10 largest industrial sectors, led by administrative & support services (8.3% to CAD 828), scientific & technical services (7.1% to CAD 1,460); manufacturing (6.5% to CAD 1,148) and accommodation & food services (3.3% to CAD 411). At the same time, earnings were little changed in wholesale trade while those decreased in retail trade (-1.5% to CAD 597). Average weekly earnings rose in nine provinces, led by Nova Scotia (4.6% to CAD 896), Saskatchewan (4.0% to CAD 1,047), New Brunswick (3.9% to CAD 939), British Columbia (3.8% to CAD 989) and Quebec (3.3% to CAD 958) while earnings were little changed in Alberta.
